Double Boiler Technique

Warm a small quantity of oil using the double boiler technique: immerse the container of oil in a bowl (preferably a bowl made of Copper or Kansa metal) of hot water such that the oil gets heated indirectly. This method of heating ensures the ingredients of the oil remain intact to then maintain the efficacy of the massage that is to follow.

Apply onto hair and massage starting from the scalp to ends of hair. Leave (preferably wrapped with hot towel) for thirty minutes. Wash with a sulphate-free hair cleanser. Rinse well.

Brahmi

Strengthens the roots of the hair for growth of lush tresses.

Bhringraj

Known as the ‘Food for Hair’ in Ayurveda, Bhringraj is excellent to promote hair growth, strength and nourishment, and also to prevent dandruff.

Shikakai

Grow in the rainforests of India, Shikakai has remarkably high levels of vitamin C, A, D, E and K; making it wonderfully stimulating for hair growth, while its low ph levels ensure natural moisture, colour and shine are preserved.

Liquorice root

Yashtimadhu or Liquorice root, is a gentle sunscreen as it acts like a shield and protects the skin from UVA/ UVB rays. It has age defying properties and is highly moisturising

Lodhra

It is also called ‘Divyaushadhi’ or the ‘divine herb’ in Ayurveda. It gives a lustre to the skin.

In ancient India, apprentices would collect the ingredients including leaves of the Brahmi plant, Jatamansi, Amla, Bhringraj, and Japapatti that were and are still considered essential for the health of hair, to make their own Ayurvedic hair oil. All these herbs and roots were then soaked in Coconut oil for a day or two until the oil became green. The herb enriched oil was then blended over slow fire for a residual paste, which was then strained to be applied onto hair every night. It made for the best Ayurvedic hair oil for hair growth. What made them special is that they were warmed and stored in copper vessels - which imparted their own nutritional properties to the oil.
